Here is some shocking news: a man killed a pet rabbit and gave the reason that the animal had bitten him. Andrew West caught a grey-haired rabbit at a house in Sheffield on a hidden camera by his neck and then threw the animal down towards the ground.
The magistrate’s court heard that the RSPCA called the 30-year-old, and he admitted the offense. During hearings, it was told that he had severe ADHD and did not take his medication on time.
The vet said that is one of the most disturbing cases of violence on pets. On 29 August 2023, This upsetting condition was captured from the bedroom of a house in Adrian Crescent in Sheffield and then passed to the RSPCA, which launched an investigation.
After the sentencing hearing, the magistrate’s court heard that the RSPCA officer, along with police, went to the property after many video clips had been passed to the charity. In one of the cases, it was seen that a pet named Milo was grabbed, and he was saying, ‘You ever going to hurt me again you understand?
Furthermore, the footage showed the rabbit and that the pet did not belong to him and was found dead after a short period.
On the investigation by the RSPCA, in one of the video clips, he was saying, ‘Oh yeah, you are going to get it, and that meant he wanted to hurt Milo. He was angry with the rabbit for biting him but did not intend to kill it.
In mitigation, two references were provided to the court, attesting to his ‘love of animals and kind personality.’ He was handed an 18-week prison sentence, and suspended for 12 months, which caused unnecessary suffering to a protected animal in a sentencing hearing at Sheffield Magistrates.
The post-martem report indicated that the rabbit had been suffering from a brain infection called Ecuniculi, which is a common infection in rabbits that leads to seizures and death.
According to the vet, after viewing the video footage and writing in the case, ‘regardless of the post martem findings, the individual in the footage was cruel and violent towards Milo. Because of these cruel actions, he has caused pain, stress, fear, and unnecessary suffering. It is the most disturbing case of violence towards a helpless animal.
